New Press Release Explores DRI for Future EAF Steelmaking

The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) has published a new press release highlighting its role in the DiversEAFy project and the research of Professor Hauke Springer ani his team on more sustainable steel production.

As the steel industry increasingly shifts towards Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking, producers will need to work with raw materials of varying composition and quality. Within DiversEAFy, Professor Springer and his team are investigating Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) pellets produced from differently composed ores, including how accompanying minerals influence the reduction process.

Based on experimental findings, the team is developing an advanced model to better account for variations in raw material quality. The aim is to support steel quality in the EAF process and optimise the subsequent use of the resulting slag.
